On February 26, 2013, after a 4 1/2 year battle with Osteosarcoma, Rachel Twigg, who was a grand marshall and intrical part of the Stampede in the Park, passed away.
Rachel graduated from Plum High School in 2005. Upon graduation, she was one of the most decorated track and cross country athletes in recent time. She was 3X WPIAL Medalist and 2X PIAA XC Qualifier. She is currently the highest PIAA Qualifier XC finisher in Plum history, as well as a co-holder of the 3200 Meter Run record for Plum. Even though Rachel was such an accomplished athlete, many will remember her most for her positive attitude, outgoing personality, and overall love of life.
As a result of this tremendous loss, this year's race will be dedicated to Rachel. In addition, all proceeds of this year's Stampede will be donated to Hillman Cancer Center in memory of Rachel.
